Hoagies and Stogies
Cigars, food, and well-brewed ale, all centered around a hearty theological discussion and debate with plenty of fellowship. Sounds like a fun evening, right? That is what "Hoagies and Stogies" is all about. The next one is on Saturday, March 7, at 5.00pm. I have been asked to debate Lutheran pastor, Rev. John Kent, on the subject of the Lord's Supper. I will present the Calvinist view and Rev. Kent will present the Lutheran view. I met John recently for a cup of coffee. He is a gracious and humble servant of Christ and his church. The more we talked, the more we realized that our systems of theology have a lot in common and some things are identical. If we were debating the doctrine of justification sola fide, there would be no debate because we believe the same thing, as Calvinists and Lutherans always have.
It seems that the men from Christ URC who attended the last Hoagies and Stogies (in which PCA pastor Rev. Brian Tallman and I debated the issue of Baptists in membership of Reformed and Presbyterian churches) had a good time. The result of that evening was a lot of fellowship, and Rev. Tallman and I subsequently developed a friendship. So, I encourage the men of Christ URC and other confessional Reformed and Presbyterian churches to come out for an evening of hoagies, stogies, and theology. All info can be found here.
(Sorry ladies, if it were up to me, you would be invited. Perhaps you can petition Reuben Settergren and tell him to open up the event to female image-bearers.)

I'm there again! Should be a great time. I can't wait to hear John Kent's presentation. I definitely encourage the men of URC Santee to come. We had a great time last year!
We women will just have to stay home and pout:(
Don't pout, ladies, you can download .mp3 of the debate. Listening afterwards will offer you the Real Spiritual Presence of pastors Brown & Kent!
