Ladies’ Prayer & Fellowship Meeting

March 2008

Read chapter 5 of J.I. Packer’s Knowing God. Answer the following questions to the best of your ability. (Don’t worry, if you do not want to speak up in the meeting you don’t have to!)

  1. Packer says that the Incarnation of Christ is “the real stumbling block in Christianity.” How is that so? What is so offensive about the Incarnation?
  1. How does the Incarnation of Christ make “sense of everything else the New Testament contains”?
  1. Does it really matter whether or not we believe that Jesus Christ is God and equal to the Father and Holy Spirit in his divinity? Why or why not?
  1. Does it really matter whether or not we believe that God the Son is a person distinct from God the Father (and God the Holy Spirit)? Isn’t this just a lot of theological “mumbo-jumbo”?
  1. What did God the Son set aside when he humbled himself and became a real man?
  1. If Jesus is God, why did he not know certain facts during his earthly life (such as the date of his return)?
  1. How does it comfort you to know that God the Son became and still is a real human being?
  1. How should the doctrine of the Incarnation of Christ affect the way in which we serve our neighbors?
