Athanasius next Saturday
Ladies, don't forget the next meeting of the Ladies Christian Classics Book Club meets on Saturday, November 15 at the home of Lisa Horton to discuss On the Incarnation by the ancient church father Athanasius.
Athanasius was the chief opponent of the heretic Arius and a guardian of the doctrines of the Trinity and the deity of Christ. As Louis Berkhof put it, Athanasius "stands out on the pages of history as a strong, inflexible, and unwavering champion of the truth." C.S. Lewis said, "He stood for the Trinitarian doctrine, whole and undefiled, when it looked as if all the civilized world was slipping back from Christianity into the religion of Arius - into one of those 'sensible' synthetic religions...which, then as now, included among their devotees many highly cultured clergymen."
This is a great opportunity for the ladies of CURC to read and discuss this classic book from antiquity that still speaks to us today.
More information about the meeting can be found by clicking on the book club link in the sidebar, which will take you to the Ladies Christian Classic Book Club blog.
