The ladies' prayer meeting is on Saturday, Feb 9 at 9.00am. For those attending, please read chapters 3-4 of J.I. Packer’s Knowing God. Answer the following questions to the best of your ability. (Don’t worry, if you don’t want to speak up in the meeting you don’t have to!)
- 1. What do you think Packer means by the following statement: “Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life’s problems fall into place of their own accord”?
- 2. Packer says that God “begins to talk to you through the words and truths of Holy Scripture…God talks to you about your sin, and guilt, and weakness, and blindness, and folly, and compels you to judge yourself hopeless and helpless, and to cry out for forgiveness.” What does he mean by this?
- How is knowing God a matter of personal dealing and involvement according to Packer?
- How is knowing God a matter of grace according to Packer?
- Answer Packer’s rhetorical question: “What harm is there…in the worshiper’s surrounding himself with statues and pictures, if they help him to lift his heart to God?”
- Evaluate Calvin’s statement: “[God’s] glory is defiled, and His truth corrupted by the lie, whenever he is set before our eyes in a visible form…Therefore, to devise any image of God is itself impious; because by this corruption His majesty is adulterated, and He is figured to be other than He is.”
- Evaluate this statement from Packer: “The crucifix obscures the glory of Christ, for it hides the fact of his deity, his victory on the cross, and his present kingdom.”

Is it the 2nd or the 9th? I thought it was scheduled for the 2nd Saturday of each month...
Oh man! Thanks Jenny! I'll fix it right away.
I'm glad to know it's not yet another pregnancy-brain lapse! Thanks for the clarification.
