  • Biblical Theology
    by Geerhardus Vos

Vos was the first chair of Biblical Theology at old Princeton Seminary. Biblical Theology can be tough reading, but it will yield incalculable treasures of understanding for the one who labors through it. Vos takes the reader across the vast landscape of redemptive-history showing the organic nature of God's special revelation to man.

  • The Economy of the Covenants Between God and Man: Comprehending a Complete Body of Divinity
    by Herman Witsius

Herman Witsius was a seventeenth century Dutch theologian. This two-volume book is one of my favorites on covenant theology. Witsius not only explains the covenants of redemption, works, and grace beautifully, but he also carefully integrates biblical theology with systematic theology. Highly recommended for any serious student of covenant and historical theology.

  • Redemptive History and Biblical Interpretation: The Shorter Writings of Geerhardus Vos
by Geerhardus Vos, Richard B., Jr. Gaffin

A little easier to tackle than Biblical Theology, Vos's Redemptive History and Biblical Interpretation include many of his essays and shorter writings. This is indispensable material ofr understanding covenant theology and teh redemptive-historical nature of the canon of Scripture. Included among the many articles are Vos's extrememly helpful "The Idea of Biblical Theology as a Science and as a Theological Discipline," "Hebrews, the Epistle of the Diatheke," and "The Doctrine of the Covenant in Reformed Theology." Highly recommended for pastors and serious students of covenant theology.

  • Exposition of Hebrews
    by John Owen

If you are seriously interested in the historical development of covenant theology, then you must not neglect Owen's treatment of Hebrews, especially his comments on chapter 8, which is found in volume 4 of the Hebrews series (also volume 22 in his complete works). Owen makes a clear case for the Mosaic covenant being a republishment of the Covenant of Works with Adam, and superimposed upon the Covenant of Grace. He is, in many ways, very close to Meredith Kline.
